Baby Blues Return..................

So thrilled this Sunday morning..... All five Baby Blues are still alive, thriving and back to visit. Though it started out sadly, (May 31st, 2017's post) it was a good nesting season afterall........................................................................................

...Mourning Doves Born at Kim Cantrell's

Remember Kim's mother dove sitting on her nest on June 22, 2017.....Well here she is on July 9 with her two babies. One is behind the other.   Terrific Pictures! So Adorable!!!!!!!!!!

Not too long after, on July 16, 2017, Kim's baby doves fledged to her flower bed. Four hours later they were sitting on the edge of the planter and then they were gone.  Bye Bye Birdies!!!! 

Hummingbird Hatches

....................Following along with Kim's previous Mama hummingbird and one egg..... Here is one fat little hummingbird newborn in the nest.  Let's see him/her grow.

Kim's Mama Mourning Dove, Hummingbird Egg and Mailbox Bluebird

Take a look at what's going on in Kim Cantrell's yard this month.

A mama mourning dove sitting on her nest eggs, a hummingbird egg in its nest and a western bluebird sitting on Kims's mailbox. The mother hummingbird was near by buzzing around Kim while she took the picture, so that indicates its a live egg. Maybe we'll see a baby hummer and baby doves soon. Keep us posted Kim. 

Sorry to Report....................

Fellow Bird Watchers......I'm so sorry to give you this news.

All six baby bluebirds were due to fledge yesterday on May 29th. 

Sometime between 8 p.m. on the 27th and early morning May 28th, a small predator of some sort got through the small door hole of the birdbox and killed all six defenseless chicks. My belief is that it was a small rodent(s). This can happen whether the birds are in a notch hole in a tree or birdbox. In 7 years, this has never happened on our watch. I'm reminded, along with the beauty of nature, that it has its natural downside. Our great horned owls weren't on their usual patrol that night.

After a couple days of mourning, I noticed the Mom and Pop building a new nest in our other bluebird box. Nature has its strong lessons. In the case of these bluebird parents, it is, to rebuild and move forward.
RIP sweet little Blues.

Hey there bird watchers!! I was able to get a real quick pic of the 7 day old bluebird babies without getting dive bombed & pecked by the parents. All six are alive. The late bloomer is at the top left with a closed beak.

Oh my gosh! Six eggs today. I wish this did not happen because nature typically doesn't let that many chicks survive. Well, let's see what happens. Now that there are six, we'll move the hatch date out to the 9th or 10th of May.

I'm thinking this is the last egg. Once the last egg is laid, the incubation period begins so that all will be born at the same time. If this is the last egg, we shall see a hatch in 13 to 14 days. That will be May 8th or 9th.

Tree Trimming Professionals

Backyard Birders are typically very selective about who trims their big trees. Birds love a good tree trim and we Birders enjoy our trees occupied with nests come nesting season. We had an excellent tree trimming experience with the trim of our 10, 50 year old pine trees. The trimming was professional. Jerry gave excellent customer service; They cleaned up our yard, roof, sidewalks and Jerry even checked with the neighbors on both sides to make sure any debris was cleaned away to their satisfaction. They were happy also.
I would definitely hire Vargas Tree Trimming Service again.  Ask for Jerry.
